Most viruses *used* to spread via floppy disks and program files, but most infections occur now because of email attachments and downloading from the Internet. For starters, if you don't open ANY email attachments, you aren't going to get a virus by email. HOWEVER, some virus/worms will gather all incoming email addresses and send themselves out, so you can be sent one that way by someone else. There is *NO* such thing as an email text virus! (There are attachments that try to appear as a text file, but again, it IS an attachment - don't open it.) *In Outlook and Outlook Express some of the attachments don't even have to be opened to infect your computer. You MUST be SURE your virus software is updated regularly with NEW virus definition files. Check the sites below to confirm that it is NOT a hoax before you panic other unsuspecting people. 99% ARE hoaxes. The virus alert sites are going to announce most new viruses before you get an email about them. There is no Bill 602P, no dying child to save by email, no Penpal Pals virus, and Bill Gates isn't going to send you money.
